Elliot Hospital and Southern New Hampshire Medical Center are among a small number of hospitals throughout New England to use the Jada System to rapidly control and treat postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and abnormal postpartum uterine bleeding. Uncontrolled bleeding after childbirth is an emergency requiring immediate intervention. The Jada System is the first new treatment to be made available for this purpose in the US in more than a decade. Elliot Hospital began successfully using the technology in fall 2021, and Southern NH Medical Center is launching the technology now.

“At Elliot Hospital, we are committed to providing the safest possible delivery for each and every family who trusts us with this precious moment in their lives. We have already used the Jada device more than 20 times, with tremendous success,” said Dr. Heidi Meinz. “The Jada technology works quickly and efficiently, which means that new mothers recover more easily.  The resulting decrease in need for blood product for transfusions has been especially important as there is currently a critical blood supply shortage across the country. Because the Jada controls bleeding literally within minutes, the bonding process between mothers and their newborns is not interrupted.”

According to the CDC, the US has the highest rate of maternal deaths of developed countries with 11.2% of all mothers experiencing PPH. Both Elliot Hospital and Southern NH Medical Center have developed robust protocols to treat postpartum hemorrhage following national guidelines, and its staff participates in routine training and simulation to ensure excellence in managing obstetric emergencies. These important efforts are complimented by new technology.

“Our dedicated team in the Birth Place takes every step to ensure a positive and safe birth experience. Adding the Jada System to our suite of offerings is another example of the excellence of our care,” said Dr. Nancy Pariser, with Foundation OB/GYN. “We are grateful to begin using this technology with our new mothers when they need it the most.”

Jada is proven to control hemorrhage within minutes, at a time when every minute matters to a mother and her newborn.1  The Jada System is made of medical-grade silicone and is designed to be soft. It is placed in the uterus and gentle suction is applied. This action removes blood and induces the uterus to contract and stop bleeding, as it should naturally do after childbirth. Bleeding is controlled in a median of 3 minutes1 allowing for mothers to spend valuable time bonding with their babies.
