Southern New Hampshire Health Names Robert Catania, MD Chief Surgical Officer

Southern New Hampshire Health has named Robert Catania, MD Chief Surgical Officer. In this role Dr. Catania will work closely with the executive director of surgical and procedural services to oversee the operations of surgical services across multiple specialty practices and Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.  

Dr. Catania joined Southern New Hampshire Health in 2020 and successfully launched the bariatric surgery program, expanding opportunities for patients to receive advanced surgical care without having to travel far from home. 

“Dr. Catania has demonstrated exceptional leadership, clinical expertise, and a deep commitment to delivering high-quality patient care,” said Dr. Joseph Leahy, Chief Medical Officer at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. “His dedication to innovation, quality, and collaboration will help guide the continued evolution of our surgical services.” 

Dr. Catania earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his residency at Brown University Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, and went on to complete fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. 

Since beginning surgical practice in 2007, Dr. Catania has performed more than 1,500 bariatric procedures.

I look forward to continuing to advance our surgical programs and improving the patient experience.” 

Each year, Southern New Hampshire Medical Center performs more than 6,000 surgeries across a wide range of specialties, providing patients throughout the region with access to experienced clinical teams using advanced surgical technology. Southern New Hampshire Health is also now offering more appointments for outpatient procedures at our Surgery Center of Greater Nashua, which just became the first same-day surgical care facility in the U.S., to attain a new type of accreditation by the widely respected and utilized Det Norske Veritas group (DNV).
