About Carrie A. Illg, APRN-FNP

Carrie Illg, a family nurse practitioner certified with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, has been working in medicine since she was 17 years old, starting as an LNA/HUC in the Emergency Department at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. After earning her ASN/BSN in nursing from Rivier University in Nashua, she continued to work as a nurse in the Emergency Room. After earning her MSN and becoming a nurse practitioner in 2019, she left the ER to pursue a primary care provider role at Nashua West Adult Medicine, also of Southern NH Health. In 2022, she joined Foundation OB/GYN.

“I wanted to pursue becoming a nurse practitioner (NP) to further my education, but also to stay true to my nursing roots,” Illg says. “Being an NP has afforded me a better work/life balance, which was important to me.”

“I’ve decided to focus my career in OB/GYN because I have a clinical interest in women’s health,” she says. “Women’s health allows me to follow my patients throughout their lifespan, from teenage years to adulthood, to potential pregnancies, through menopause. I have been through many life experiences in the realm of women’s health, personally, and feel I have a lot to offer to my patients.”

Illg says it’s important that her patients feel comfortable talking with her.

“Honesty and trust are important,” she says. “While some topics are difficult to discuss, I want them to know their comfort is of the utmost importance to me. I like to create a ‘safe space’ during my office visits, so patients know no topics are off limits. I want them to know I am here for them and want to help in any way I can.”

When she’s not working, Illg can often be found at a soccer field, hockey rink, lacrosse field, or karate studio, cheering on one of her three very active sons. Illg also enjoys cooking, baking, traveling, and spending time with her family.
