Southern New Hampshire Health Welcomes Carrie Illg to Foundation OB/GYN in Nashua

Southern New Hampshire Health is pleased to welcome Carrie Illg, Family Nurse Practitioner certified with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, to Foundation OB/GYN in Nashua.
Carrie has been working in medicine since she was 17 years old, starting as a Licensed Nursing Assistant/HUC in the emergency department at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. After earning her B.S. in Nursing from Rivier University in Nashua she returned to the emergency department, where she continued to work while earning her Master of Science degree. Once she became a nurse practitioner, she worked at Nashua West Adult Medicine, also part of SNHH.
“I wanted to pursue becoming a nurse practitioner to further my education, but also to stay true to my nursing roots,” Carrie says. “Being an NP has afforded me a better work/life balance, which was important to me.”
Carrie, who will be managing routine obstetric and gynecologic patients, has a special clinical interest in contraceptive management, irregular bleeding and ovarian cysts.
“I’ve decided to focus my career in OB/GYN because I have a clinical interest in women’s health,” she says. “Women’s health allows me to follow my patient throughout their life span, from teenage years to adulthood, to potential pregnancies, through menopause. I have been through many life experiences in the realm of women’s health, personally, and feel I have a lot to offer to my patients.”
Carrie says it’s important her patients feel comfortable talking with her.
“Honesty and trust are important,” she says. “While some topics are difficult to discuss, I want them to know their comfort is of the utmost importance to me. I like to create a ‘safe space’ during my office visits, so patients know no topics are off limits. I want them to know I am here for them and want to help in any way I can.”
When she’s not working, Carrie can often be found at a soccer field, hockey rink, lacrosse field or karate studio, cheering on one of her three very active sons, who are 12, 11 and 8. Carrie also enjoys cooking, baking, traveling and spending time at home with her family and their two-year-old cocker spaniel, Harold.
