Nearly nine months ago, The Birth Place at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center began working on a “Moms Room,” a private place for employees who are expressing milk to pump at work. Today, it is open and ready for use!

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires employers to provide reasonable break time for an employee to express breast milk for their nursing child for one year after the child's birth each time such an employee has a need to express the milk. Employees are entitled to a place to pump at work, other than a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion from coworkers and the public.

It is so important for moms to be able to continue to provide milk for their babies that is easy to digest and full of immune factors. It has been shown through research that when breastfeeding is supported, moms are absent less and are happier employees.

The Moms Room is located on the second floor of the Medical Center down the hall from the endoscopy waiting room. The Birth Place Lactation room is also available for expressing milk as long as the room is not in use.
