Volunteering at Southern NH Health

At Southern New Hampshire Health, volunteers are an important part of our team. They make a meaningful difference each day, dedicating over 48,000 hours of their time annually to our patients, staff, and visitors alike.

We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds - students, retirees, former patients, and community members. Volunteers assist in a variety of roles. View our current openings by browsing this directory.

Volunteer application and onboarding process

  1. Apply online by clicking here

  2. Attend an interview with the manager of Volunteer Services

  3. Complete a background check

  4. Complete Employee Health requirements including annual flu shot, immunization form and record, and TB test

  5. Complete parental consent form (volunteers ages 16-18)

Important information:

  • The minimum age to volunteer is 16.
  • Many but not all of our volunteer opportunities take place Monday through Friday during regular business hours.
  • Many but not all volunteer opportunities involve regular weekly shifts.
  • Volunteers are asked to commit at least one year to volunteer service, with the opportunity to continue beyond that year if desired.
  • Volunteering is not job shadowing. Volunteers do learn about the hospital environment and gain confidence interacting with patients and staff. However, they do not gain clinical or direct patient care experience. To participate in a job shadow, you must be at least 17 years old (18 if you’re shadowing in the operating room) and already have a preceptor selected.
