Driving into the OR!
Our goal was to creatie a 'Warm, Welcoming and Fun Environment' for Pediatric Surgery Patients and as of late 2018, pediatric patients are now able to drive into the OR!
The Preop Unit staff at Southern NH Medical Center consistently looks for ways to put pediatric patients at ease as soon as they come into the Preop area and throughout their entire stay in Surgical Services. Susanne Lavery, Unit Director and Sharon Paradis, Clinical Teacher, recently shared some fun enhancements for kids who require surgery at the Medical Center.

When pediatric patients first enter the Preop Unit every child is able to pick out their own surgical cap that has been handmade by one of the Preop/PACU nurses in various kid friendly patterns. They continue to provide distractions in order to decrease anxiety by the use of IPads where children can play age appropriate games or watch their favorite video. The most recent investment takes the patient experience a step further, providing electric cars for children to drive into the OR for their procedure! After surgery, children are able to choose a stuffed animal friend to take home with them.
