Screening & Diagnostic Services

Advanced Screening and Diagnostic Services

Early detection plays an important role in improving cancer outcomes. Southern New Hampshire Health offers routine cancer screenings and advanced diagnostic services designed to identify cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages.

Breast Cancer Screening

Regular mammogram screenings can increase the likelihood of detecting breast cancer early, when treatment may be most effective. Patients are encouraged to speak with a primary care provider or gynecologist to determine an appropriate screening plan based on individual risk factors and health history.

Mammography

In general, women age 40 and older should receive annual mammograms. Early detection through mammography has been shown to reduce the risk of dying from breast cancer by 25–30% or more. The deNicola Breast Health Center provides comprehensive breast imaging services with a dedicated team that includes fellowship-trained breast radiologists and advanced technology, including 3-D tomosynthesis mammography.

Colorectal Cancer Screening

Colonoscopy remains the gold standard for colorectal cancer screening in adults aged 45 and older. This procedure is highly effective in identifying and removing polyps and other abnormal growths before they develop into cancer. With routine screening, colorectal cancer is often preventable and highly treatable when detected early.

Lung Cancer Screening

When detected early, lung cancer may be more treatable and associated with improved outcomes. Southern New Hampshire Health is designated as a Lung Cancer Screening Center by the American College of Radiology and offers low-dose CT (LDCT) lung screenings for individuals at high risk.

Without routine screening, lung cancer is often not diagnosed until symptoms develop, when treatment options may be more limited. Annual LDCT lung screening has been shown to save lives by identifying lung cancer at earlier stages, allowing for timely treatment and improved outcomes.
